Jo
Calvert-Mindell has lived in Canterbury for
32 years and has had
careers as a police officer and social worker.
Jo is currently Chair of Hales Place Residents'
Association and has recently been appointed Vice-Chair
of the National Organisation of Residents' Associations
(NORA).
Jo has responded to residents' requests for
a social group to combat
the increasing sense of isolation experienced
by people living alone with
fewer families around them: Hales Place Friends
- providing a warm
and friendly weekly drop-in for adults to have
a cuppa and a chat
with others, and participate in games, crafts,
outings and the mutual
problem solving of personal and community issues.

Michael
Berridge lives in St.Stephens and works as
a freelance translator
with his wife Janet.
"Canterbury has the potential to be both
a university city and a
commercial centre for East Kent," says
Michael, "but for me, the residents of
the city must come first. There must be input
from them and genuine
consultation about future plans such as the
high speed rail link to
London. In particular I would like to see a
major remedial programme of
repairs to our roads and pavements, so that
old people need not fear a walk
to the post office and road users - on two
wheels or four - need not
worry about lurching into the latest pothole.”

Nick
Blake has a proven record of working for local
people and he wants to represent the residents
of St.Stephens on the City Council.
Nick has worked in architectural design in
East Kent for many years. His knowledge in
this area would be a great asset for the city
council, since no other councillor has this
background. He served on a local parish council
for many years before moving to Canterbury
in 2002. He has two teenage children at local
schools.
