Stephen
has lived in East Kent all his life. He moved
to Canterbury 11 years ago to go to University
and
now lives and works in the City as a software
computer
engineer.
Since settling in Canterbury, Stephen has
been an active
campaigner for the Liberal Democrats. “I
walk through the City every day and see the
major
problems now facing Canterbury. The Tories
have failed
to run the Lib Dem recycling scheme properly.
The City’s
streets are always littered and Canterbury’s
parks are in
dire need of attention.
“I want to make our City clean and
safe again. It should be a great place both
to visit and to live
in, but vested interests are destroying
the character of the old City. Canterbury has
wonderful
opportunities ahead – the new Marlowe
and, at long last, a refurbished library at
the Beaney.
We must make sure we make the best of these
for all the residents.”

James
grew up in Westgate Ward and went to a local
school there before going on to the Simon Langton
Boys
School. He now works as an analyst and is
happily
married with two children.
James and the FOCUS team have been campaigning
for
better roads and pavements in the ward for
some time.
“The state of some residential roads is quite
dreadful,”
said James. “Roads like Knight Avenue,
Bishops Way
and Cherry Drive need urgent attention.
It’s important that residential areas
are not forgotten.
Residents should be able to walk on pavements
that aren’t
blighted by cracks and holes.
“The Liberal Democrat
Focus Team have petitioned the council for
better roads and pavements in Westgate Ward
and we will
continue to do so until something is done.” |
Ida
lived in Canterbury for many years, was educated
at The Simon Langton Girls School, has worked
as a City
Guide, and for the past ten years has worked
in Canterbury
for Help the Aged. “I
want to ensure that the voices of local residents
are
heard again in Canterbury, as they were when
the
Liberal Democrats controlled the council. Now
the
Tories only pay lip service to consultation and
prefer
secrecy to open government. I believe that local
government should be for local people - not just
for vested
interest groups.
“At the moment, whatever the issue is - car
parks, safe
pavements and roads, traffic problems and residents’ parking,
park wardens, housing developments, in fact anything
and everything you can think of - local people
are simply ignored. This is unacceptable. I will
work so that your voice is heard and that you
are kept informed of planned changes to your
neighbourhood.” |
