Guy
Voizey is
the Canterbury and Whitstable Liberal Democrats
parliamentary spokesman, succeeding Jenny Barnard-Langston.
Guy Voizey was the Liberal Democrat
candidate for the South Thanet constituency
in 2001 and 2005, when the Liberal
Democrats achieved a 47% increase in votes
compared with 2001. That result was achieved
despite a high-profile UKIP campaign and the
presence of a Green Party candidate. Both Labour
and
the Conservatives saw their
actual vote and share of the vote fall in
2005. Guy therefore has considerable
experience of elections and how to achieve
results.
Guy says
"I’m
delighted to have been
selected as the parliamentary spokesman for
Canterbury and
Whitstable and to be able to build on the
foundations laid by Jenny Barnard-Langston and members of the local party. I’m under
no illusions that to win at Westminster will take
a lot of hard work but there is no reason why
we cannot win.
"Canterbury has many similarities with
seats where we have MPs like Bath, Oxford West
and Abingdon.
The recent successes in
Bromley and Sturry South show what we
can do and I want to work with all of you to
make the Lib Dems the first placed party in
Canterbury."
“We are incredibly lucky to have
such a fantastic and experienced person
fighting for the Liberal Democrats in Canterbury,” said
local Liberal Democrat Leader Councillor Alex
Perkins. “Guy brings
a wealth of political experience
and
has the
ability and personality to win here in Canterbury
& Whitstable."
