Canterbury’s
Youngest Councillor Is New CAMP Chair
It’s been a busy year for Canterbury’s
youngest City Councillor Chris
Took. Most people would think that getting
a new job, getting engaged and being elected to the
city council at just 22 was enough to be getting on
with for one year. Chris however takes such things
in his stride.
Within days of returning from a gruelling cycle ride
to Reims (on behalf of the Lady Mayoress' Charity)
Chris has been elected Chair of the Canterbury Area
Members Panel. (CAMP)
The panel, which meets every few weeks to discuss
local issues and forthcoming council decisions, is
made up of all of the City Councillors in the Canterbury
area. This means there are 12 Liberal Democrats, 2
Labour and 2 Conservatives – including all three
group leaders!
“We felt Chris deserved a chance to take over
this important committee after the excellent work
he did chairing the recent council review on local
democracy” Said Council Leader Alex
Perkins. “Chris is a remarkable young
man who seems to take everything in his stride and
I know he will make an excellent job of keeping us
in line!”
“People have suggested it may be a little daunting
having to referee meetings between the leader of the
Council and the leader of the opposition but actually
they always seem to get on quite well when discussing
Canterbury,” said Chris. “The meetings
are usually good fun and my hope for this year is
that lots of younger people will come along and make
sure their voices are heard.”
