Casino
: local people say NO!
Massive
majority vote against in Council consultation
By
Alex Perkins,
Canterbury Liberal Democrat Leader
The local Liberal Democrats have campaigned hard
to stop the Tory-controlled Canterbury City Council
from bringing a casino to Canterbury.
As you can see, the results are an unequivocal
rejection by local people of the idea that a casino
would be suitable here.
The responses from the General public were as follows:
Canterbury rejected a casino by 88% to 11.5%
Herne Bay rejected a casino by 74% to 16%
Whitstable rejected a casino by 85% to 8%
The Rural areas rejected it by 93% to 3%
When the results from stakeholders, the Local Strategic
Partnership organisations and the residents panels
are added in the results change only very slightly:
Canterbury rejected a casino by 78% to 16%
Herne Bay rejected a casino by 65% to 23%
Whitstable rejected a casino by 79% to 11%
The Rural areas rejected it by 89% to 3%
One can assume therefore that the Conservative council
administration's plan to build a casino on one of
three sites in Canterbury or on a site in Herne Bay
is now dead.
Congratulations to everyone who campaigned
so hard for the wellbeing of local residents.
