New LibDem Leader Alex Perkins has called on local LibDems to remember who their major adversaries are. Speaking to a packed hall of Liberal Democrat supporters Alex called for the party to focus on the key issues.

" Historically it is the Conservatives who have been the main rivals to the local Liberal Democrats and they must be the target of our campaigning."

" It is the Conservative Party who are behind the plundering of greenfield sites for development, the relocation of the college without proper transport infrastructure, the decimation of the Council's Conservation Unit and the expenditure of hundreds of thousands of pounds of local tax payers money to underwrite coach parking. But in the longer term we now know that their days of influence are over. We must concentrate on making sure that local people are aware of the Tory's record and realise the dangers of a long-term Tory administration!"
