LibDems
triumph in Europe elections
By
Alex Perkins,
Liberal Democrat Canterbury City Council Leader
LibDem
Leader Charles Kennedy met Canterbury
PPC Jenny Barnard-Langston at the House of Commons
following the success of the Liberal Democrats in
the European Elections. The LibDems have gained
two more seats, bringing their number to
12, and increased their share of the vote.
Charles congratulated Canterbury Whitstable
Liberal Democrats for their part in the success.
"I stated at the outset of the campaign that
my aim was for the Liberal Democrats to win more votes
and more seats - and that's exactly what we've done.
We didn't get diverted during the campaign - as the
Conservatives did - by other parties because we had
sufficient confidence in our pro-European credentials
and our message.
"These results are bad for the other two parties,
but a disaster for the Conservatives.
They are not resurgent, they are rapidly becoming
redundant in European politics."
