Local Liberal Democrat Councillor and Council Leader Alex Perkins has thrown his support behind the proposal to build a wind farm on the Kentish Flats.

In response to questions about renewable energy Alex said "There is much that we can all do to promote environmentally friendly policies which will help to reduce the use of fossil fuels and increase the introduction of sustainable energy production. That is why I and my fellow LibDem Executive members wish to offer our unequivocal support for the proposed wind farm on the Kentish Flats."

Alex also outlined other plans the council has to help do its part to fight global warming. "We have already installed thermal solar heating in projects such as Whitgift Court and The Bekesbourne Lane Caravan Site. We will now seek to greatly enhance the use of these techniques in all future projects. In line with that aim the Council is now investigating the use of photo-voltaic (solar electric) technology in all future building and roof replacement projects."

In addition to this the Council continues to promote technologies which are environmentally friendly. As part of this there will be an increase in the use of electric cars by council officers at work within the district and stand-alone equipment such as ticket machines will use solar power.
