Joy at Wind Farm Go Ahead

The news that the proposed Wind Farm on the Kentish Flats off the Kent has been given the go ahead has been greeted with joy by the leader of Canterbury City Council, Councillor Alex Perkins.

"This is fantastic news", said Alex. "The project will put us at the forefront of the battle to develop sustainable energy production. Renewable energy schemes like this are definitely the way forward and I think everyone who cares at all about the environment and about the future of this planet will be jumping for joy!"

The scheme, which was given ministerial approval on Wednesday, will consist of thirty turbines, which will be sited 8.5 kilometres off the coast of Herne Bay and could generate as much as half of the electricity needed to supply homes in the Canterbury district. The electricity generated will come ashore at Hampton and there will be a visitor centre at Whitstable to explain the project to local people and visitors.

"The wind farm will be over five miles off-shore and I don’t believe for one second that it will have any negative effect on local people whatsoever" said Alex Perkins. "Not only will it generate local jobs for local people, but also the footings of the wind farm turbines will form a man-made reef which will act as a nursery to help increase local fish stocks. This is great news for the district and for our children’s futures as well!"
